Working and, of course, playing with kids has always been fulfilling to me. Children are so honest, direct and unfiltered. Once I decided that I wanted to become a lawyer, I knew I had to be a family law attorney because it would give me the best opportunity to work with children's issues. As an adoption attorney, I'll be able to help kids find forever families and there is no better feeling in the world.
My path to becoming an attorney has been a bit circuitous, since I didn't go directly to college. Instead, I went to work for the tile setting company that my grandfather founded in the 1980's. After mastering the trade and building my own business as an independent contractor, I decided to expand my opportunities by getting a college degree. I majored in history, specializing in the history of science and the U.S. Constitution. I went on to graduation from Lewis & Clark Law School and am now licensed to practice law in Washington & Oregon.
In the past five years, I've been working as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for foster children. My original goal of becoming a family law attorney specializing in child welfare issues became a reality when I found Tilden & Associates. Initially, I was dismayed to learn that as a result of our adversarial court system, most family law attorneys have become quite litigation-oriented and have lost sight of ways to minimize the trauma of separation and divorce. Here at Tilden & Associates, their goal for divorce clients is to help children and families create healthy futures by lessening emotional and financial costs; once I realized this, I knew I'd found a good home for my law career. It fulfilled my desire to help children and families with our difficult-to-navigate legal system. If children are involved in your case, there are not better lawyers to have on your side.
My family originally came west from Kansas toward the end of the Dust Bowl, settling in Idaho. My mother's generation was the first to migrate to Oregon, where I currently live. When I still can, I like to visit my plot of land up in the Idaho panhandle.
In my free time, I like to search our rivers and waterfalls, remodel houses, listen to Hamilton, binge watch TV and dream of having more free time.
